"I just - I have this theory that the more you are aware of time the more slowly it moves, which *could* make light speed travel possible, but only if you were to concentrate really..."

Time's a funny thing, isn't it?

I mean, I used to sit back in the lab all the time, and find some passage of notes I'd just scribbled amusing, or some reaction extra reactive, or even the idea I was about to get be laughable. All there, tickling in my head and ready to be explored. But I'm not stupid. I know that's not all-the-time funny, or ever har har funny. That's just Fred funny. I'm the one that's laughing and that's ok.

But time's different, and I think most people would be inclined to agree with me. Or? At least willing to listen. Time's a funny thing.

Because you can't pin its reactions down. You can't say for sure what it is going to do. Or even what it's going to do to you. And it does, you know.

Do things. To you.

You don't give it the attention that it's due, and it seems to speed by, almost a sort of punishment for your neglect. It knows. It feels what you're doing and not, and so it just flies away from you. And then you don't get to feel it at all. It's just gone. Years of it and lives of it. Gone.

You focus in too hard, try and capture every second up in your hands to hold them close? Then time slows to a crawl. Yes you see and feel it all, but there's so much of it. Heavy and weighing you down and you still have time but what can you really hope to do with it? It's like moving underwater. If you're moving at all.

So that's when you think, well, at least I've got it figured out right? Action and reaction, yours and its but at least you know. Only you don't, you see. And that's where it gets funny.

Because if you find that place between thinking too much on it, and not thinking at all. The place that some people would label a 'happy medium'? Then it seems like you have no idea at all. And forecasting? You all can just pretty much go ahead and forget about forecasting. That's when time does anything and everything it wants.

It bounces and glides and runs and stops and hurts and heals and zooms and soars and plays Red Rover Come Over with your life, heavy and angry and breaking through the arms you thought were strong only you blink and you're left holding nothing at all. On there's the other times when it lands there, weak and dangling and you can support it but for how long and then still, well? What do you do with it, now that you've got it?

How do people manage to nurse time, anyway, pulling everything possible from it that they can, when time was never sick to begin with?

Yes, time's a funny thing. And sometimes I even manage to laugh about it.
