Have you ever betrayed someone's confidence? Has anyone ever betrayed you?

It's interesting isn't it, the way this question is worded. I've sat and watched it for ... well days really, trying to sort out just what unsettled me so. And my thoughts just might have finally landed on something.

Have I ever betrayed anyone's confidence? It's the confidence part that's different from one to the other, and even though some of it can be infered. Well, it still feels different. Confidence. A secret shared, or a hope for someone carried secretly. Expectations? Something private that lifts another person in your estimation just that far from the rest. What's shared by both and seen by one that makes another body different...something to hold close. Do all those little things make up a confidence as a whole? After all friendship isn't just that secret shared, or that expectation, or that pedestal, or that wish. It's the sum of all the parts really, and one of the few things where the whole result is always bigger than what you began with.

I've betrayed more than my fair share of expecations I think, spoken when I shouldn't have, and maybe even stopped trying much earlier than I should have. But have I ever betrayed someone's confidence as a whole? And what's worse left it there broken?

I hope not.

Maybe I'm not as sure as I'd like to be, but I hope not.
